Two dental treatment quotations can look similar and still describe very different services. Before comparing the total price, check whether each quote covers the same teeth, procedures, materials and follow-up arrangements.
This checklist helps you organise questions for the provider. It cannot determine which treatment is clinically suitable for you.
1. Ask for an itemised treatment plan
A package name such as “smile makeover” does not explain what will happen to each tooth. Ask for the proposed procedure and the teeth involved, using tooth numbers where possible. If two providers recommend different procedures, ask the treating dentists to explain their reasoning and the alternatives.
Keep the clinical decision separate from the price comparison. A lower quotation for a different treatment is not a like-for-like saving.
2. Clarify what is provisional
Ask whether the quotation is preliminary or follows an in-person examination. Request a written explanation of what could change after assessment, how revised costs would be communicated and whether you can take time to consider a changed plan.
Do not book travel solely around an assumed treatment schedule. Confirm the anticipated appointments and ask what happens if the plan or timing changes.
3. Compare materials and components
Ask each provider to identify the proposed restoration material. For implant treatment, ask which implant system and restorative components are included, and whether temporary and final restorations are listed separately.
A brand name alone does not establish that one treatment plan is better. The purpose of this information is to understand what you are being quoted for and to keep useful records for future care.
4. Separate treatment costs from travel services
Use the same checklist for every quotation:
- Examination and imaging: included, excluded or to be confirmed?
- Each proposed dental procedure: included, excluded or to be confirmed?
- Temporary restorations, if planned: included, excluded or to be confirmed?
- Final restorations and fitting appointments: included, excluded or to be confirmed?
- Any additional procedures identified after assessment: included, excluded or to be confirmed?
- Medication and follow-up appointments: included, excluded or to be confirmed?
- Hotel nights and room arrangements: included, excluded or to be confirmed?
- Airport and clinic transfers: included, excluded or to be confirmed?
- Additional visits or an extended stay: included, excluded or to be confirmed?
Confirm the currency, payment stages, deposit conditions and cancellation terms directly with the provider. Keep a copy of the terms supplied before payment.
5. Get a clear aftercare contact
Ask who handles clinical questions once you are home, how to reach them and what the provider expects you to do if you need local dental care. Clarify which follow-up services are included and who pays for additional treatment or travel if needed.
If a guarantee or warranty is offered, request its written conditions, exclusions and claims process. Do not assume that the word “guarantee” means every future cost is covered.
6. Keep your records together
Save your quotation, agreed treatment plan, consent documents, invoices and correspondence. Before travelling home, request the clinical records and treatment details needed for continuity of care.
